I love the wines of Concannon Vineyard, and they wowed me at first with their Petit Sirah. This wine is a mixture of varietals from the Livermore Valley, and I can't find out the exact one, nor in which proportion they are utilized.
The color is an inky purple almost bordering on black and this goes well with things that are spiced. In my case, I chose to make some New York strip and season it with Montreal Steak Seasoning (both the regular and the spicy version).
The first thing that you get from this wine is the silk caress on your tongue which then delivers a plethora of blackberries and a slight backbone of chocolate. Oh, this wine is a keeper. The finish has a nice five second drop off that still gives you flavor while not delivering the feel of cobwebs on your tongue. Combined with the pepper from the seasoning, this leaves an interesting sensation at the back of your throat which lasts for minutes (trust me, I started looking for what to watch on tv and still felt it).
I would tell you to buy a case of this, or maybe two; one for yourself and one to pass out at a party.
