Wine marketing is mostly based on the label and the bottle, and of course, the name, and Shoofly is a company with a name that grabs your attention. Of course, in addition to the graphics on the label, there is a sticker of a fly above the label which is indeed eye-catching.

However, for some of us, the label, bottle, and cute name is not enough. What interested me was the combination of grapes used. While I must say that I am not very well acquainted with the Semillion grape, I am with Verdejo/Verdelho grape and the Viognier which I can tell really figure into this wine's taste(s).

The wine itself has some melon hints (mostly honeydew) lingering in the background, but the initial flavor is that of the Verdejo's acidity with the Viognier's quirkyness. This is in fact, a nice wine, and I see this company doing many more good things.

Our Mission: The Black Winer strives to expose African Americans [and others] to wines, without the flair, stuffiness, and airs of elitism and snobbery that you get from sommeliers and high level wine enthusiasts. We believe in finding something that you like the taste of, outside of the basic brands that you have been force-fed over the years through a combination of ethnically targeted advertising, and what people in your family have historically been drinking.
