It took me a minute to really start to narrow down this
taste, since I was trying to find out what the other
juxtaposing aspect was. I finally figured it out, it was
minerality, with maybe the slightest drop of petrol. But
this in itself was masking the flavor of pears and peaches;
heavy on the pears.
Lately, I have been on a Pinot Gris kick, having tasted a
wonderful Kim Crawford as well as some stuff from the state
of Oregon. Rounding out the Pinot triumvirate is Pinot
Blanc, or Pinot Bianco, the other mutation of Pinot Noir.
So, when I saw a Pinot Blanc, I figured that I would also
equally and amply move in that direction as well.
This wine comes from the Alsace region of France, you
know, that region that was one of the major issues that
Germany had with them over where Alsace-Lorraine belonged.
Alsace also produces some very nice Rieslings as well.
Anyway, this wine has great pear flavors, as well as a
dash of peach as well (reminding me somewhat of a Bellini).
While it has a nice element of minerality, I can taste just
the slightest amount of petrol which reminds of a Gruner
Veltliner from Austria. This is a great wine.
