After talking with someone whose website I was moving, I decided to try a few kosher wines, or to make it my point to start exploring them. I guess I'll have to add a new section to the websites for kosher wines. As he explained what made them kosher, it made me chuckle, for the reasoning is somewhat whimsical.

However, on my last trip to the store, I chose to pick up two different kosher wines, both of them being red wines. But I started with the Cabernet/Petit Syrah mix.

While this wine was a little too tart upon first opening, I let it sit for an hour or two and then gave it a try. It is only recently that I started having a penchant for Petit Syrah and figured that this might be a nice blend.

Truthfully, this wine definitely needs decanting, and it is not full enough for my tastes. However, as they classify this is an apertif, it's light spice and juicyness would be great with cured meats and cheeses. I am getting some currants and other deep red/purple fruits, very light tannins and just the faintest hints of jams.

Our Mission: The Black Winer strives to expose African Americans [and others] to wines, without the flair, stuffiness, and airs of elitism and snobbery that you get from sommeliers and high level wine enthusiasts. We believe in finding something that you like the taste of, outside of the basic brands that you have been force-fed over the years through a combination of ethnically targeted advertising, and what people in your family have historically been drinking.
