My take on Malbecs is that most of them aren't smooth, but rough and jagged, like most of the Pinotage that I have ever had. But now and then, a Malbec comes along that makes me smile. This is one example of that.

Another Rio Seco wine made from vines over 100 years old, this is a very distinguished and dignified Malbec; kind of like an old South American plantation owner that everyone calls 'el jefe,' or the boss. The taste is perfectly spiced and balanced, full of deep red plums, a little nutmeg/cinnamon, and an oak backbone [which is very acceptable in a red wine]. There is very low tannins in this wine, and the fruit taste is phenomenal; you can enjoy it best by holding a little bit in your mouth for about five seconds, and then swallowing it.

I won't even begin to say what this wine goes best with, and what it doesn't go best with, because depending upon your palate, you might find it great with a number of foods.

Our Mission: The Black Winer strives to expose African Americans [and others] to wines, without the flair, stuffiness, and airs of elitism and snobbery that you get from sommeliers and high level wine enthusiasts. We believe in finding something that you like the taste of, outside of the basic brands that you have been force-fed over the years through a combination of ethnically targeted advertising, and what people in your family have historically been drinking.
