As I was just talking with a couple over a wine tasting,
it's interesting when people think that they are so chic
when ordering a Pinot Grigio, even though most of what they
are ordering is the lightest and barest quaff around; in
essence, it's total bull!
That said, I have noticed that wines termed Pinot Gris,
usually from the states or the Alsace region, are the best
examples of wines made from this grape.
This last time at the wine store (Canal's of course), I
tried one from Oregon that I haven't had before.
While this wine has ample alcohol content, and indeed
does have the signature flavors of pear and minerality, it's
missing the oomph that I have come to respect. It's on the
lighter side with it's depth, and I am wondering if it's
just because this is an '06 and it's '10. I'll give this an
8 for now, but I will seek to search out a more recent
vintage and update my thoughts.
