I am normally used to a meaty Syrah, but not all are done like that. I have been a fan of Concannon since being wowed by their Petit Sirah, and after some studying, found out that what is called Petit Sirah in the U.S. might actually be related to Syrah instead of Durif, which is another varietal.

Now, expecting a meaty Shiraz when it's robust, and a crappy one when it's not, this wine actually surprised me. It's very low key in taste, with a very muted experience. However, the longer you let it sit on your tongue, the more it opens up with a combination of spice and dark plums.

All in all, this is not a bad wine. The key is for me to taste another bottle and see if they are the same.

Our Mission: The Black Winer strives to expose African Americans [and others] to wines, without the flair, stuffiness, and airs of elitism and snobbery that you get from sommeliers and high level wine enthusiasts. We believe in finding something that you like the taste of, outside of the basic brands that you have been force-fed over the years through a combination of ethnically targeted advertising, and what people in your family have historically been drinking.
