I remember the first time that I had
Meridian Chardonnay. It was early 1995 at the start of
finally getting to know a woman that I had a crush [from
afar] on. She was introducing me to some Chardonnay and
some sparkling wines.
The vintage must have been 1993, and at
that time, I thought that it was the best tasting wine that
I ever had. Granted, that at this time in my life, it's
not like I really was into sampling and tasting different
wines, and unfortunately, I was used to whatever low
brand/line quaff that many nightclubs carried. Actually,
the beer that I drank during those years was definitely
better than the wine.
While Meridian has been consistently
producing a Chardonnay with the same tastes, none of them
have captured the flair and elan that that 93 vintage
embodied. It's been an all downhill experience for me
since then.
On the flip side, this is a nice wet
Chardonnay that doesn't have that buttery flavor and feel,
nor the overall oaky taste that I have yet to love. It has
a crisp taste and has some subdued flavors of grapefruit.
I will say that this wine is definitely nice for an
afternoon affair or something sublime in the evening.
