Several months ago, I had the great chance of meeting a
very import person at Santa Margherita and I have some great
ideas for marketing their wines, but the thing was, I had
never had any one of them. Most interestingly, that day I
found out that their Pinot Grigio is the number one SKU in
the US for this varietal.
Now, as I am gently sampling this wine, I can discern
tastes of green apples and peaches. I am sure that there
are some other things that I am not picking up, but it is
very gentle on the palate. In the beginning -- hey hey, I
like that -- you get instant acidity, not too strong but
well balanced, which then levels off dramatically and gives
you something to caress your palate like silk layering on
your skin.
I have had Pinot Grigios that were bland and cheap, and I
have had ones that had some over the top acidity, this one
is different. While I do like the more pear aspects of this
varietal, this wine probably is one of the best mates for
seafood and chicken, which when it comes down to it, matters
most to people, which is why it is number one in the US of
this varietal.
