I first had this wine, an earlier vintage of course, years ago at a wine dinner at Swanky Bubbles. Of course that restaurant is no longer, but I remember the dinner nicely. Greg Cohen of Southern Wine and Spirits presented the wines and had a bevy of great products with him that night. This time around, I got it for a friend, which they loved.
We'll start with the aroma, which instantly fills your nostrils with the smell of tobacco, reminding you of either a tobacco shop, or in my case, when old-timers broke out their pipes and filled them up.
The color is so deeply purple that you also swear that you can see a little bit of brown in it.
The taste immediately hits you with cocoa and coffee bean; now, some of you might be able to get out a little bit of fruit, but honestly, this luxurious taste floods me and I can't even begin to imaging fruit being part of this.
This wine would go so perfectly with any red meats, but I would even dare to try it with a fish that has been spiced eloquently.
