I just got finished reading the Book of California Wine this morning -- actually it is 30 years old, but it is still a treasure trove of information -- and was tickled on the section on Zinfandel as well as another section on how well it goes with pairings. I love a good strong Zinfandel, and so while picking up some steaks to cook I selected something that I haven't had before, but looked at with the potential zeal to win me over.
This wine carries some very strong blueberry [over lesser cherry] aspects, including the acidity but lacks deeper complexity which you can get out of something that is higher in potency. It does start to creep up on you, but it is not as big and bold as I would normally like. The wine does have a little heft to it and the finish exceeds a good twenty seconds, but it's not hitting on all fours for me.
