Back to my old stomping ground of Canal's in Pennsauken, I decided to try a lower priced Amarone and see if it was just garbage or adequate. This little wench was $20 and I said what the hell.
Now, before drinking this, I had a couple slices of some hot dried sausage from Calabria and then gave my mouth a minute or two to calm down. While this Amarone is essentially minimalist in that it only uses the two mandatory grapes, it is worthy of keeping in rotation. It yields some tart cherry, pepper, and spice with an undercurrent of dark fruits. While this is not your massive big boy Amarone, for $20 it is a great purchase.
This wine is definitely a red meat wine and it might settle with a couple of complimentary cheeses as well.
