On a search for a nice sauvignon blanc on a nite where I wasn't trying to spend more than $10, I happened upon this wine. It wasn't my first choice, as I had perused the aisles after passing it initially. Since this store had a very limited selection anyway, and the price was right, I decided to settle on it.

One of the first things to notice about the bottle was that it had a sticker on it claiming that it took a gold medal at the 2006 International Eastern Wine Competition in Corning, NY. One thing that I have learned is that there a lot of judging contests, and they all have interesting names, many of which are so untrue. In this case, I would like to have known what else was entered in the contest.

Anyway, as a low priced sauvignon blanc, it's not bad, though it's buttery texture hints more to a California style of Chardonnay. You can definitely grasp the taste of both honeydew and nectarines, though it's missing the essential citrus flavors (lemon and grapefruit) that sauvignon blanc has.

Our Mission: The Black Winer strives to expose African Americans [and others] to wines, without the flair, stuffiness, and airs of elitism and snobbery that you get from sommeliers and high level wine enthusiasts. We believe in finding something that you like the taste of, outside of the basic brands that you have been force-fed over the years through a combination of ethnically targeted advertising, and what people in your family have historically been drinking.
