Five dollar wines are primarily hit-or-miss wines, as I
have found out in my experiences, but I am always game to
try one and find a hidden gem. Such is the case with this
white wine from Portugal's Vinho Verde region.
This isn't the first wine from this region that I have
had, and I am not entirely sure of which grapes were used
in it's manufacture, but this is a wonderful offering.
Almost totally clear in color, this wine is not too
strong in alcohol content, but very demure in flavor, with
a delicate, fruity taste. This is primarily an apertif
wine, but it can also be well suited to light dishes. I
actually see it as something nice to drink out on the town,
when you don't want to go dry, but you don't want to drink
water [of Coor's light] either. The fruity flavor in
itself still has just a little bit of citrus in it, and I
would say the slightest hint of berry.
I highly recommend this wine, and for the price, it's
worth buying case to enjoy by yourself, or to share with
friends over the summer, and into the fall.
