Coming into Canal's in Pennsauken, the first wine aisle
is composed on French wines, and over time, I have found
some good ones over there, Old Fart's Wife is a prime
example. This time around, I saw an interesting label
called Now and Zen, which I just had to pick up.
Yes, I admit it, the cute label is what got me, but it was
also less than $10, so it was worth a try.
On the back of the label, they say that this wine is
perfect with spicy Asian cuisine, and I tried it on a night
in which I went for my favorite takeout from one of my
favorite Chinese takeout spots; the meal was a large order
of pork fried rice, spicy, with a dollar's worth of shrimp
(onion's included).
The wine itself has a pleasant aroma, but the taste is
what grabs you. It's subtle and slightly sweet, with a
nice flavoring a pineapple with a little bit of lemon in
it. It does go great with spicy food, but could also be
great for any type of seafood dish, especially a good
paella.
For those of you close to Cherry Hill, NJ, I would
recommend picking up a bottle of two, and heading over to
Sira's on route 70. This would make the perfect match.
